Commemoration of Polytechnique Tragedy
On Dec. 6, 1989, 14 women were killed at École Polytechnique. They were killed because they were women, because most were students in an engineering program. What has come to be called the Montreal Massacre is an event we are all called upon to remember: violence against women continues to be part of our present.
On the 30th anniversary of the École Polytechnique massacre, and the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women (White Ribbon Day), we invite you to join us in a commemoration of the 14 young women.
There will be a ceremony today on McTavish St. in commemoration of the 14 young women, with words by Principal Suzanne Fortier, Dean Jim Nicell, Associate Provost (Equity and Academic Policies) Angela Campbell, McGill Education's Dr. Allison Gonsalves (of DISE) and McGill Engineering's Diana Serra.
A minute of silence will be observed at 10:37 am throughout McGill
