Overview of the challenge
Place Vertu sits at the heart of Montréal’s Saint‑Laurent borough—a district that already welcomes 100,000+ multicultural residents, 110,000+ daily workers and 13,000 students and will shortly gain 3,000 new rental apartments along a brand‑new, walkable “village” street that links the mall to the neighbourhood. Market analysis shows that these audiences are family‑oriented, highly social, college‑educated and brand‑aware (average age ≈ 41; average HH income ≈ $100K). Yet they perceive Place Vertu as a “tired” mall and leave the trade area for everyday essentials, dining and experiences instead of shopping within Ville Saint-Laurent.
A total of 8 teams will be selected to participate in this challenge which will take place from September 12th to November 14th.
The Challenge will take place in 2 phases:
September 12-October 9
Know Your Ground & Know Your Guest
- Analyse the site, its catchment and its competitive context to articulate a clear positioning for the future retail street that is both differentiated, evidence‑based and scalable
- 10-minute pitch
October 10-November 14
Curate & Activate the Esplanade
- Design a fully‑fledged tenant‑mix and placemaking concept that operationalises the positioning defined at Phase 1, with a viable financial business proposal
- 15-minute pitch
How to Register

- Following registration, Instructions will be sent to each team to complete a 2-page deck and validate their team’s participation.
A total of 8 teams will be selected to participate in this challenge which will take place from September 12th to November 14th.
Mentoring and Prize Money
Each of the 8 selected teams will be assigned a Jadco corporate mentor to accompany them in the development of their business plan.
