My name is Karla & I am a first year PhD student under the mentorship of Dr. Debra Titone at McGill University. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Psychology at the University of Texas at El Paso under the mentorship of Dr. Ana I. Schwartz. My broad research interests include the role of bilingualism on cognitive skills such as memory, reading, and decision making. I am enthusiastic about the exploration of these topics through the utilization of Eye-tracking and EEG as methodologies.
More specifically, my current work attempts to uncover the linguistic and individual factors giving rise to differences in decision-making about moral dilemmas among bilinguals. A second interest of mine is understanding the psycholinguistic mechanisms leading to the successful integration of information coming from multilingual sources of text. Finally, in addition to the study of these topics among sequential bilinguals, I aim to include more varied bilingual experiences by studying Bilingual speakers of a Heritage Language (accultured bilinguals) from the Montreal (Canada) area and the Juarez(Mexico)/ El Paso(U.S) areas.
