GBA+ (Gender-Based Analysis Plus) extends the equity lens beyond sex and gender to encompass additional, intersecting identities, for example, persons who are Indigenous, racialized, members of a minority ethnic groups, 2SLGBTQIA*people (sexual orientation and/or gender identity minorities), and/or who are living with a disability (which are the groups McGill targets for its equity and inclusion efforts). Intersectional identities have the potential to combine to create more marginalized social locations (for example, a racialized woman may face additional barriers than those experienced by a racialized man).

The Status of Women Canada offers several online educational resources on GBA+:

McGill University is on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg nations. We acknowledge and thank the diverse Indigenous peoples whose presence marks this territory on which peoples of the world now gather.

For more information about traditional territory and tips on how to make a land acknowledgement, visit our Land Acknowledgement webpage.
