Professor Shaheen Shariff, James McGill Professor and Director of iMPACTS, and Safia Amiry, PhD student and iMPACTS research assistant, were invited to speak at a celebratory event for International Women's Day, hosted by the Baie-D'Urfé Citizens' Association.
Pictured left to right are Professor Shariff, Ms Amiry, and the Mayor of Baie-D'Urfé, Heidi Ektvedt. Other invited speakers included Aram Alborzi, a Canadian with Iranian roots and architect by training, and Baharan Baniahmadi, an Iranian-Canadian actress and author.
This year's event recognized women, as well as their dreams, struggles, resilience, and achievements. The theme of the event — Woman, Life, Freedom — was inspired by Iranian women. About 40 women were in attendance.
More information about the event is available on the Baie-D'Urfé Citizens' Association website.
