The department of Chemistry welcomes many students every year in its research labs to perform research projects on exciting topics. Professors offers research opportunities on an ad hoc basis, so you should contact them individually to know more about specific opportunities.
Students can perform research year round, based on an agreement with the professor. A typical research project will take place in the summer (16 weeks from the 1st week of May), or during the fall and winter terms (as an Honours project, another research course, or paid as a research assistants)
Research courses offer an opportunity to do research for credit.
Students in an Honours program will take CHEM 470 either in summer or as a full year course.
Students from any program in Science, including Chemistry majors, can take a CHEM 396 course at any point in their degree after their first semester. CHEM is a one semester course, and is offered in Fall or Winter or Summer.
Students can take more than one 396 course, but each one must be with a different professor.
For students that have completed a research project with a professor already, and would like to do further work with them, we have CHEM 480 available to be taken either as a full year course or as a one semester course in Fall/Winter/Summer.
The following programs allow student to perform funded research.
- NSERC-USRA (during summer term only). Make sure to follow the procedure and respect the deadline.
- SURA (during summer term only)
- Work-study program (for eligible students only)
- Scholarship from centres or training programs (availability to check with potential supervisor)
We welcome and encourage applications of students from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented minority groups.
