The School of Information Studies is very pleased to announce that our PhD Student, Feng Fei, along with her supervisor Prof. Benjamin Fung (PI) and Prof. Catherine Guastavino (Co-PI) have been awarded $10,000 CDN funding from the McGill Collaborative for AI and Society (McCAIS) for their project, “City-scale Urban Sound Synthesis Using Multimodal Generative AI”. As part of the Computational & Data Systems Initiative, the award encourages interdisciplinary research aimed at understanding and positively influencing the impact of AI on Society.

The School of Information Studies is happy to announce the incoming MISt student Liam Dearin as part of the Indigenous Student Librarian program. This programs offers a tuition waiver to an Indigenous student as well as part time employment as a student librarian or archivist at Concordia Library. The program is a partnership between McGill, Concordia and Univesité de Montreal.
Congratulations to David Medcalfe, a Master of Information Studies (MISt) project-stream student at McGill, who was selected as one of 14 national recipients of the 2025 Retail Council of Canada (RCC) Retail Education Scholarship. The award recognizes academic achievement, leadership, and professional experience in the retail sector.
He was further awarded a top-tier national prize, the “Lead the Way” award, sponsored by Costco Wholesale Canada. Read here
Recently, the Canadian Nutrition Society held its annual conference, where awards were distributed to winners of the society's poster presentations. Among them, two McGill University grad students studying nutrition were recognized.
Ferial Hamdi, M.Sc. Thesis student with Prof. Brittany Jock (formerly of the School of Human Nutrition), won the George Beaton Award for Student Work in Public Health Nutrition and took second place in the Graduate Oral Competition

The McGill Institute of Air and Space Law was delighted to participate in the 16th Africa Regional Round of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, held on 22 and 23 May 2025 at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria, South Africa. Dr. Arnold Agaba (Postdoctoral Researcher and Chair the Research Group on African Air and Space Law) served as a judge during the competition, sharing his expertise and helping to inspire the next generation of African space lawyers.

The Institute of Air and Space Law (IASL) recently hosted two remarkable events, each underscoring the strength and spirit of our community.
