Oliver Joncus

Oliver Joncus is a second-year M.A. student in Communication Studies at McGill University, working under the supervision of Professor Alex Blue V. His research explores how listening is configured as a site of governance within contemporary media systems, focusing on its role in shaping attention, affect, and relationality. With a strong foundation in sound studies and environmental humanities, his thesis explores how compositional practices and sound design intersect with technological infrastructures—from generative audio platforms to smart city systems—in the regulation of public and private sonic environments. His research is supported by the FRQSC Master’s Scholarship.
