The time has come to bid farewell to our old acquaintance, the WMS Nivo Slider slideshow tool. Nivo Slider doesn't allow us to enter alt text for images, so it violates our accessibility standard. New options for managing images will be available in Drupal 9.
If your site uses Nivo Slider you should reformat your content before the end of 2022 (see recommendations for reformatting Nivo Slider Slideshows)
Nivo Slider is an older technology and can't be updated to meet our accessibility norms. See the Quebec Government Standard sur l'accessibilité des sites Web (SGQRI 008 2.0) for details.
What will happen to Nivo Slider slideshows after December 2022?
It's expected Nivo Slider slideshows will continue to display on WMS websites for a short time after the December 2022 deadline. Nivo Sliders will not be discontinued until the scheduled removal date in April 2023. When this happens, all Nivo Slider slideshows will be removed from the pages on which they are displayed.
What will happen to the WMS galleries where my Nivo Slider images and captions are stored?
Though Nivo Slider slideshows will disappear from pages, WMS galleries that store Nivo Slider images and captions will continue to exist in the WMS for the time being. There are currently no plans in place to discontinue WMS galleries.
