Professional Master Programs

Admissions for Fall 2025 are now open.

The School of Physical and Occupational Therapy offers two Professional Masters Programs.

  • Master of Science (Applied) in Occupational Therapy
  • Master of Science (Applied) in Physical Therapy

Master of Science (Applied) in Occupational Therapy

There are two ways to enter this program, described here as entry points. You can enter after completing your Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science (OT) at McGill University or via the Qualifying Year process if you have an undergraduate degree in any discipline other than OT.

Entry Point 1: The undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science (Occupational Therapy)

Students who successfully complete the Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science (OT) are eligible to apply to the Master of Science (Applied) in Occupational Therapy program. A place in the OT Applied Master's program is reserved for each student in the final year of the Bachelor of Science, Rehabilitation Science (OT) degree, provided that minimum academic standards and other requirements, as determined throughout the final year, are met.

Entry Point 2: The Qualifying Year for the Master of Science Applied in Occupational Therapy

The Qualifying Year (QY) is a mandatory preparatory year for candidates who hold an undergraduate degree in any discipline other than OT and wish to enter the OT Master’s program. The QY curriculum is the same as the third year of the Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science (OT) program, to provide candidates with the required health science background for the Master program. Students who successfully complete the Qualifying Year in Occupational Therapy are then eligible to apply to the Master of Science (Applied) in Occupational Therapy program. A place in the OT Applied Master's program is reserved for each student in the final year of the OT Qualifying Year, provided that minimum academic standards and other requirements are met.

Master of Science (Applied) Physical Therapy

There are two ways to apply to this program, these are known as entry points. You can enter after completing your Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science (PT) at McGill University, or via the Qualifying Year if you have an undergraduate degree in any discipline other than PT.

Entry Point 1: The undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science (Physical Therapy)

Students who successfully complete the Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation (PT) are eligible to apply to the Master of Science (Applied) in Physical Therapy program. A place in the PT Applied Master's program is reserved for each student in the final year of the Bachelor of Science, Rehabilitation Science (PT) degree, provided that minimum academic standards and other requirements, as determined throughout the final year, are met.

Entry Point 2: The Qualifying Year for the Master of Science Applied in Physical Therapy

The Qualifying Year (QY) is a mandatory preparatory year for candidates who hold an undergraduate degree in any discipline other than PT and wish to enter the PT Master’s program. The QY curriculum is the same as the third year of the Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Science (PT) program, to provide candidates with the required health science background for the Master program. Students who successfully complete the Qualifying Year in Physical Therapy are then eligible to apply to the Master of Science (Applied) in Physical Therapy program.

Note: Only students from these two entry points are eligible to apply for direct entry to the MSc(A) programs. Places are held in the MSc(A) programs for all students coming from these two entry points. These students will be granted entry to their respective MSc(A) program provided they have maintained the appropriate academic standing and other requirements outlined during their studies.

Upon completion of the MSc(A)  OT or PT, graduates will have the educational credentials required to apply for licensure to practice in their respective disciplines.
