Equity - Clinical Education

The principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion are highly valued by the Clinical Education Team within the McGill OT and PT programs. We strive to build inclusive, healthy practice learning environments for our students collaborating with students who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and requiring accessible environments.

Current initiatives:

  • Anonymous clinical form to write and get support about microaggression during a clinical course (the location of the clinical form will be clarified during the clinical seminars)
  • Confidential individualized meetings (Academic Coordinators of Clinical Education (ACCE) are available anytime to students who reach out for support)
  • Ensuring a positive and diverse workplace culture when completing site assignments
  • Continuing professional development for supervisors

Accommodations for clinical courses:

If you require accommodation for a clinical course, please follow the Recommended Procedure Flowchart for Fieldwork Accommodations Promoting an Inclusive Campus.

Here are highlights from the Recommended Procedure for Fieldwork Accommodations Promoting an Inclusive Campus flowchart document.

At no point will the student be pressured into following the recommended procedures. The options will be presented in an unbiased manner. The student can also say yes to some, but not all the recommended steps.

  1. Students must contact the Student Accessibility and Achievement and register with the office, before scheduling a meeting with the ACCE or receiving any accommodations.
  2. Initial intake meeting with SAA adviser
  3. Meeting with ACCE
  4. Shared meeting with ACCE, student and SAA adviser
  5. Follow up throughout the clinical course from ACCE with student and clinical educator.
