BAM PROGRAMS

  • McGill Black Social Work Students Mentorship Program

The McGill Black Social Work Mentorship Program is a volunteer peer-mentoring program for new students at the school of social work aiming to foster personal and academic excellence through peer-to-peer support. It creates an opportunity for students seeking intercultural connections, friendships, and support to aid with integration during their first academic year.

Program eligibility

Student mentors

All current part-time or full-time Black upper-year Social Work students are eligible to submit an application for the McGill Black Social Work Mentorship Program.

Mentees

All current part-time or full-time Black first-year Social Work students are eligible to submit an application for the McGill Black Social Work Mentorship Program.

How the program works

For student mentors

Student mentors will have the opportunity to develop their leadership and mentoring style by pairing with a mentee for the duration of one academic year. Aspiring mentors are encouraged to go through the following process:

  1. Submit an application of interest for the McGill Black Social Work Mentorship Program
  2. Accept the proposed match with your potential mentee.
  3. Ensure communication for one academic year with your assigned mentee by answering their questions and providing information
  4. Participate in the BAM events for mentors and mentees
For student mentees

The peer mentorship program offers first-year social work students the possibility to meet new people with similar interests, obtain academic and cultural support from upper-year Black social work students and encourage involvement on campus. Aspiring mentees are encouraged to go through the following process:

  1. Submit an application of interest for the McGill Black Social Work Mentorship Program
  2. Accept the proposed match with your potential mentor
  3. Ensure communication for one academic year with your assigned mentor by engaging in informative and meaningful meetings
  4. Participate in BAM events for mentors' and mentees' group meetings

Future mentees can register for the program by filling out the form.
