Future students
McGill’s Scholarships and Student Aid offers two distinct financial support programs for all newly accepted, first-year, first-degree undergraduate students:
Merit-based Entrance Scholarships
The Scholarships and Student Aid Office offers merit-based entrance scholarships to first-time university students entering a full-time undergraduate degree program.
There are two types of centrally-administered entrance scholarships:
- One-year Scholarships, valued at $3,000 (non-renewable) - no application required (all applicants are automatically considered on the basis of their pre-McGill academic results).
- Major Scholarships, valued between $3,000 and $12,000 (renewable annually up to 3 or 4 years provided criteria for renewal are met) - application required (following the submission of an application for admission, students who wish to be considered for Major Scholarships must submit a separate application for Major Scholarship).
Need-based Entrance Bursary Program
The Scholarships and Student Aid Office is also responsible for administering the University’s Entrance Bursary Program, which offers entrance bursaries to students from low to modest-income families who demonstrate financial need.
Students can apply upon notification of acceptance to McGill, at which point an online application will become available on Minerva.
Consult Scholarships and Student Aid for any questions about Entrance scholarships and bursaries.

Awards, Scholarships & Prizes
Awards available to Science students are included in the Undergraduate Scholarships and Awards Calendar. All relevant information (including regulations) on awards is included in this calendar.
The Faculty of Science provides about 200 scholarships and prizes to its students each year:
- No application is required.
- Students are automatically considered based on academic merit (Exception: Moyse Travelling Scholarship)
- Consult the Undergraduate Scholarships and Awards Calendar for more information.
Dean's Honour List
The Dean's Honour List (DHL) carries no monetary reward, but is an official University recognition of the student's achievements and is recorded on the transcript. This distinction is conferred upon no more than the top 10% of students. Continuing students are named to the list based on the combined GPAs for the Fall and Winter terms. Graduating students are named to a separate list based on cumulative GPA.
Dean's Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research List
The Dean's Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research List (DMURL) recognizes B.Sc. students who have participated in substantial and broad undergraduate research. (More information.)
Financial assistance for current students
While awards are granted on the basis of academic merit, bursaries (grants) and repayable loans are granted on the basis of financial need and are administered by the Scholarships and Student Aid Office. Students apply through McGill Student Aid. There are also work study opportunities available.
