Awards, scholarships, prizes

Awards available to Science students are included in the Undergraduate Scholarships and Awards Calendar. All relevant information (including regulations) on awards is included in this calendar.

In course awards and graduating awards

The Faculty of Science provides about 200 scholarships and prizes to its students each year. Most awards are based on academic merit. Except for the Moyse Travelling Scholarship, students do not have to apply for in course or graduating awards. See the Undergraduate Scholarships and Awards Calendar for more information.

Dean's Honour List

The Dean's Honour List (DHL) carries no monetary reward, but is an official University recognition of the student's achievements and is recorded on the transcript. This distinction is conferred upon no more than the top 10% of students. Continuing students are named to the list based on the combined GPAs for the Fall and Winter terms. Graduating students are named to a separate list based on cumulative GPA.

Dean's Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research List

The Dean's Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research List (DMURL) recognizes B.Sc. students who have participated in substantial and broad undergraduate research. (More information.)

What about entrance scholarships, activity awards, athletic awards, and external awards?

Again, see the Undergraduate Scholarships and Awards Calendar for more information. Some of these may require an application.

Financial assistance

While awards are granted on the basis of academic merit, bursaries (grants) and repayable loans are granted on the basis of financial need and are administered by the Scholarships and Student Aid Office. Students apply through McGill Student Aid. There are also work study opportunities available.
