Notes about specific courses

  • AGRI 519. Sustainable Development Plans.: Although this course is offered by the Faculty of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences, it is an approved course for the B.Sc. Environment Major. Note that this course is restricted to students enrolled in the Barbados Field Study Semester.
  • BIOL 451. Research in Ecology and Development in Africa. and GEOG 451. Research in Society and Development in Africa.: Effective January 2021, students may count either BIOL 451 or GEOG 451, but not both, toward the DMURL. These courses are restricted to students enrolled in the McGill East Africa Field Study Semester.
  • EPSC 482. Research in Earth and Planetary Sciences.: Until academic year 2013/2014, this course may have been taken as either a reading course or a research course. To count towards the DMURL, the work completed for the course must be research rather than reading. Starting in September 2014, EPSC 482 is only for research projects, and counts towards the DMURL (whereas the new course EPSC 460 will be for reading projects).

About D1/D2 courses, and N1/N2 courses

  • A course in the format ABCD 123 is a 'regular' one-semester course, given in the fall, winter, and/or summer semester.
  • A course in the format ABCD 123 D1 and ABCD 123 D2 'spans' two consecutive semesters, usually starting in the fall semester and continuing in the winter semester.
  • A course in the format ABCD 123N1 and ABCD 123N2 'spans' two non-consecutive semesters (for example, winter + fall).
  • Some 'regular' courses are also given as 'span' courses (or vice versa). Such courses are only listed once in the table above, not in all possible variants, for the sake of brevity. Please consult the class schedule for full details.
  • A course that is listed in the table counts toward the DMURL whether you take it in the one-semester 'regular' form (e.g. NSCI 410, 6 credits per term, one term only) or in the multi-semester 'span' form (e.g., NSCI 410D1 + NSCI 410D2, 3 credits in each term, 2 terms, 6 credits total).
