Biography: 

Yunjia Xie was born in Chengdu, in the southwest of mainland China. She is fluent in both Mandarin and Sichuanese, two of the many languages and dialects spoken in China. Yunjia completed her BA in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language in mainland China. While studying pedagogical theories, since her first year of university, she has been teaching Chinese and English online to gain practical teaching experience. She conducted two studies during her undergraduate years—one on the teaching of Mandarin phonetic mutation, and the other on the sinology course offerings at Chinese universities. Meanwhile, she joined the university's Student International Communication Association, which aims at fostering communication among students from various cultural backgrounds. Currently, Yunjia is a second-year MA student in program Second Language Education in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) at McGill University. She is completing her thesis about how English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers in non-western contexts perceive plurilingual approaches.

Biography in Mandarin:

谢芸佳出生于中国大陆西南部的成都。她在中国大陆完成了汉语国际教育的学位。在学习教学理论的同时,从大学一年级开始,她就在网上教授中文和英文,以获得实际的教学经验。她在本科期间进行了两项研究,一项是关于普通话语流音变的对外汉语教学,另一项是关于中国大学的国学课程设置的情况。同时,她加入了大学的学生国际交流协会,该协会促进了来自不同文化背景的学生之间的交流。

目前,芸佳是麦吉尔大学教育综合研究系(DISE)第二语言教育(SLE)专业的二年级硕士生。她的论文主要讨论在非西方背景下,英语作为外语(EFL)教师如何看待多语言方法。
