Resources for learning German

(Thanks to Walter Reid for compiling this list.)

1) German courses in the McGill Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Department

2) The Goethe-Institut Kanada - Montreal

They offer not only classes (from beginner to advanced), but also internationally recognized language certification tests. They offer multiple classes at different times each term, so students won't confront the scheduling conflicts or lack of space that can occur when trying to take courses from the German department.

3)  German Language Exchange Service - Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD)

DAAD offers various (sometimes generous scholarships) to study German in Germany. There is a scholarship application process, but it is more than feasible to obtain these. It is statistically easier to obtain these than SSHRC fellowships, for instance.

4) Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements

For students with CGS SSHRC Awards, these are up to $6,000 and can be used for a period of study in Germany.
