Research

The Thanabalasuriar Lab is focused on understanding the interplay between innate immune cells, the lung microbiota, and pulmonary infections. Using a combination of intricate in vivo models including intravital microscopy, my lab seeks to understand how innate immune cells mitigate infection control in the lung. Having experience in the drug development field during my time in the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, my research is tailored to developing novel new therapeutic targets.

My lab has three main research focuses:

1. To understand and visualize the mechanisms of bacterial biofilm development in vivo.
2. Determine the impact of the nasal microbiome on lung immunity.
3. Understand the interplay between cutaneous thermal injury and airway inflammation.
