Irem is a master’s student in the Department of Art History and Communication Studies. Her work explores how aesthetics are mobilized in contemporary artistic practices to contend with prevailing narratives of sea crossings, rendering visible the fraught entanglements of life and death—an approach she terms the aesthetics of ambivalence.
