Jayalakshmi Caliaperumal earned her BSc in Animal Science and Biotechnology in 2007 from PSG College of Arts & Science in India, followed by an MSc in Neuroscience from the University of Madras in 2009, and a PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Alberta in 2013. She then pursued nursing at Trent University, graduating with a BSc(N) in 2018.
A Faculty Lecturer at McGill University’s Ingram School of Nursing, she coordinates and teaches courses in pathophysiology and pharmacology for undergraduate and graduate students. She has published her research in Experimental Neurology, Translational Stroke Research, and J Neuroinflammation, is an active reviewer for several scientific journals, and has presented her work at numerous national and international conferences.
Jayalakshmi contributes to advancing equity and social justice in nursing education, serving on the Social Justice and Anti-Racism Working Group, and chairing the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) BIPOC Nurses Interest Group.
