Guillaume Fontaine is the Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Implementation Science for Health Systems Transformation and an Assistant Professor at McGill University, where he directs the RISE³ Implementation Science Lab. He is also a Principal Investigator at the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology of the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research and a Visiting Fellow at the Kirby Institute, UNSW Sydney.
Prof. Fontaine holds several national and international leadership roles in implementation science. He is Co-Lead for Implementation Science within the Canadian Network on Hepatitis C, Co-Lead of the Methods Think Tank for CTN+, and Founding Co-Chair of NEXUS, the Global Network for Implementation and Data Sciences. He also serves as Deputy Editor of Implementation Science, the flagship journal in the field.
His research focuses on understanding and improving how evidence-based interventions, practices, programs and policies are implemented, scaled and sustained across healthcare systems and community settings. His program both applies and advances implementation science theories, models, frameworks methods, and study designs, with a particular emphasis on health systems transformation, equity and the integration of data science and emerging technologies into implementation research and practice.
His applied research is concentrated in HIV, viral hepatitis, sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections, and related areas of public and population health. He works with healthcare systems, community organizations, researchers, practitioners, policymakers and people with lived experience to identify barriers and enablers to implementation and to co-develop strategies that are feasible, scalable, equitable and responsive to local contexts.
His methodological interests include implementation trials and hybrid effectiveness-implementation designs; implementation science theories, models and frameworks; behavioural science; equity-focused and community-engaged implementation research; mixed methods; systematic reviews, scoping reviews, umbrella reviews and living evidence synthesis; and the application of artificial intelligence, data science and digital technologies to implementation research and health systems transformation.
