Desautels’ valedictorian Grace Singer hopes for carbon-free future

This year, ten valedictorians from across the university shared their reflections and insights with McGill’s Class of 2025--with an eye cast toward the future. Desautels Grace Singer will be among them. The graduating Bachelor of Commerce student hopes to make a difference by advocating for decarbonization from within the business world. “In the long-term I hope to work directly with the adoption and acceleration of sustainable solutions, such as what I did within the cleantech company I interned at during my degree,” Singer says.

McGill Desautels offices earn new sustainable workplace ratings

This winter, three of the ten McGill offices awarded new Sustainability Workplace Certifications for their sustainable practices were from the Desautels Faculty of Management. Notably, a collaborative Desautels office, formed by the Laidley Centre for Business Ethics and Equity, EDI, the Lewtas Office of Experiential Learning, and TLS Management teams, earned a Platinum certification, the highest possible rating. The Sustainable Growth Initiative (SGI) advanced to a Gold certification, and Desautels IT achieved Silver.

SIS PhD student Feng Fei's project awarded McGill Collaborative for AI and Society (McCAIS)

The School of Information Studies is very pleased to announce that our PhD Student, Feng Fei, along with her supervisor Prof. Benjamin Fung (PI) and Prof. Catherine Guastavino (Co-PI) have been awarded $10,000 CDN funding from the McGill Collaborative for AI and Society (McCAIS) for their project, “City-scale Urban Sound Synthesis Using Multimodal Generative AI”. As part of the Computational & Data Systems Initiative, the award encourages interdisciplinary research aimed at understanding and positively influencing the impact of AI on Society.

Protecting seniors with dementia from financial fraud

Fraud is now the leading crime committed against seniors in Canada, and individuals with cognitive decline are particularly at risk. On June 11, McGill University’s Dementia Education Program will host a webcast to raise awareness about how to prevent people living with dementia from becoming victims of financial fraud.
