McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management is launching a new twelve-month Masters of Management in Finance (MMF).

The MMF program is designed to prepare students of any academic background for a variety of careers in finance such as investment banking, asset management, corporate finance, risk management, and financial consulting, among others. The program, designed for students without prior work experience, features a comprehensive curriculum that integrates advanced financial concepts and quantitative methods with real-world business practices.

“Our finance professors are internationally recognized around the world for research and teaching,” said Dean Isabelle Bajeux-Besnainou of Desautels. “The MMF will build on these strengths and leverage our excellent resources such as our student-managed investment firm.”

Throughout the program, MMF students work as analysts at Desautels Capital Management Inc., a licensed and regulated investment management firm with an independent board of directors that manages $3.5 million in external client funds.

“A unique feature of this program is that students will acquire experience not just in managing money, but in all aspects of the running of an actual asset management firm,” said Jan Ericsson, head of the Desautels finance area. “They will exit the program not only with solid academic credentials but also with invaluable practical experience.”

McGill was recently ranked the #1 university in Canada and Desautels was #1 in Canada for Business and Management Studies by the 2015/16 QS World University Rankings. Desautels is among the business schools with the highest per-capita research productivity in Canada for finance.

The first cohort of the MMF will begin in summer 2016. Program and application details can be found online.
