Expert: Boeing under Senate scrutiny amid airline industry turmoil

Published: 17 June 2024

On June 18, Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun will testify before a Senate panel about the company's safety crisis, addressing lawmakers' questions on quality control issues and whistleblower allegations (CNBC). Meanwhile, Canada’s federal antitrust watchdog is probing airline competition following the shutdown of Lynx Air (The Globe and Mail). These factors, among others, point to a turbulent summer for the airline industry.

Here is an expert from McGill University who can comment on this issue:

John Gradek, Faculty Lecturer, School of Continuing Studies

“With record-breaking airfares facing Canadian travellers this summer, and the potential for labour actions affecting several key industry functions, how can Canadians ensure they get the value they expect for airline purchases and minimize potential travel disruptions? "

John Gradek is a Faculty Lecturer in the School of Continuing Studies, where he coordinates the Supply Chain and Operations Management and Integrated Aviation Management programs. He has held senior roles at Air Canada in operations, marketing and planning and has worked in the development and the delivery of commercial airline management programs for the International Aviation Management Training Institute. He also served as an adjudicator with the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada.
