IDP requirements for graduate students

Graduate education provides students with rich knowledge and skills that can greatly contribute to society. Goal-setting is an important strategy that can help students stay on top of their academic career and fulfill ambitions.

The myPath programming and tools developed by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies provides students with the resources they need to develop their own Individual Development Plan (IDP). The purpose of an IDP is to enable students to establish meaningful goals and create a strategy for how they will accomplish these goals. IDPs have been implemented at many graduate institutions in North America, the majority of which have made it mandatory to submit an annual IDP.

We recommend that all students establish a new IDP at the start of each academic year and that they review and make adjustments at the start of each semester

PhD students admitted since Fall 2019 and Master's non-thesis students admitted since Fall 2022 have annual IDP requirements.
