During my internship at the Pakistani Mission to the United Nations, I had the privilege of attending the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development.
This forum focused on the progress of nation-states towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This opportunity was a hands-on experience in a field that I intend on working in. I used my interpersonal skills to work efficiently and responsibly. It also allowed me to develop a strong set of skills in the treatment of confidential government reports and documents. It provided me with an insight to Pakistan’s continued diplomatic efforts and their contribution to the implementation of international policies, while acting in accordance with the Pakistani foreign policy. Not only did this social mobility allow me to participate in a forum which focussed on the broader global good, it also provided me with renewed vigour to embark upon my final year at McGill and incorporate first-hand experience and knowledge of working at the United Nations. The best part? I was sitting next to the President of Palau and I didn’t even know.
