Submitting an application

How do I submit my application to the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences at McGill?

All application forms should be submitted through the McGill Online Application Website. It is important to fill out and submit your online application BEFORE sending supporting documents to avoid any problems or delays. ID numbers are usually returned to you by email after 24 to 48 hours of your application submission.

When I can I submit my application to the DENT-P Year?

The admission cycle starts on September 1st for entry the next fall (e.g. application submitted by March 1st, 2023 for entry in September 2023).

Is it possible to work on the application for a period of time and then submit the final version?

Once you have selected your program, you may stop at any time and return to your application by re-entering your Login ID and PIN number.

How much is the application fee?

The on-line application fee is non-refundable and is payable by credit card when submitting your application on the web.

I have omitted to answer all the questions or have made a mistake on the application form, and I have submitted the application. What do I do now?

You may undergrad.dentistry [at] mcgill.ca (write to us) under separate cover and we will enter the corrections on the system.

When am I going to be invited for interviews, if granted?

Interviews are conducted online usually around mid-April. We will do our best to give you a two weeks' notice.

What is the required Cote-R?

A Cote R of 34,0 or higher would be considered competitive.

Do we give admission preference to applicants from certain CEGEPs?

Applicants are considered for admission on the basis of their academic record. Our Admissions Office does not assign any preference to particular CEGEPs; the school a student has attended does not affect the admission decision.

Does McGill give admission preference to the relatives of McGill graduates?

Some universities and colleges have legacy programs which give special admission consideration to relatives of graduates; McGill University does not have a legacy admission program. Admission to the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences is based solely on academic and competency-based criteria. Letters of support from alumni, friends and family do not advantage (or disadvantage) an application.

 

Submitting your documents

Do I have to submit my personal statement via the Web site?

No. We do not require submission of a personal statement anymore. Your CV and List of Verifiers must be uploaded through Slate

Do I need to send you official transcripts?

No. Cegep applicants only need to provide their permanent code on their application.

When do need to submit my documents?

The online application for the DENT-P Year must be submitted by March 1st before 9:00 p.m. (Montreal local). All required documents must be received by March 3rd before 11:59 p.m. (Montreal local).

What is a verifier?

A verifier is a person who can attest to the content of specific CV entries (e.g., direct supervisor in employment context) and who may be contacted within 12 months of your application deadline.

Do I need to provide a verifier for all entries on my CV?

You do need to provide a verifier for the most important entries on your CV. It is for each applicant to decide what is relevant and what is not to put on their CV.

 

Tracking an application

How do I know if all my documents have arrived?

You may check the status of your application via the Slate website. The list of documents received by our office is updated on a regular basis. Submitting your online application before sending documents will avoid problems with supporting documents. Please make every effort to complete the online application as a first step.

What does 'Ready for Review' mean?

An indication of 'Ready for review' means that your file is complete and under review by the Admissions Committee. Your status will indicate 'Ready for Review' until a final decision is rendered.

When are final decisions provided?

Final decisions will not be posted within one month after interviews have been completed.

How do I receive a McGill Identification number?

Once you have successfully submitted the on-line application forms (including payment), you will receive a confirmation and a nine digit McGill identification number. Please include this ID number in all correspondence with our office.
