Two new professors of structural engineering have arrived in the Department of Civil Engineering, adding expertise in the areas of tall wood buildings and ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) structures.

Professor Matiyas Bezabeh specializes in the evaluation and design of timber and timber-hybrid structures for earthquakes and strong winds. He graduated from the University of British Columbia and most recently was employed at RWDI before arriving at McGill University in August 2022.

Professor Yi Shao’s research aims at improving the sustainability and automation level of the construction industry by promoting circular utilization and autonomous construction. He graduated from Stanford University, and then worked as a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, before coming to McGill University in September 2022.
