Students, colleagues, friends and family of the late Professor Richard Donovan have paid tribute to his legacy with the new Richard Donovan Graduating Prize in Case Excellence at McGill University. Alumna Karen Hersh (BCom’88) has been appointed as CFO of Patriot One Technologies. Hersh brings to the role more than 20 years’ experience in finance including several senior leadership roles, most recently serving as CFO for a global private equity company focused on cybersecurity technologies.

A recent graduate with a double major in Finance and International Management and a minor in Economics, Chima sheds light on life at McGill and finishing her degree during a pandemic.

Erin Janna (BCom'19, GCPA'20), student of the Graduate Certificate in the Professional Accounting (GCPA) program, has been selected among her graduating class as this year’s recipient of the C. Douglas Mellor Prize for academic excellence.
The prize, which is valued at $3,000, is named after Douglas Mellor, the first Executive Director of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Quebec, now the Ordre des comptables agrées du Québec, and is awarded each year to honour Mellor’s enduring contributions to both McGill University and his profession.

A generous donation from Gisèle and Neil Murdoch (BCom’81) has accelerated student mental health efforts at Desautels, creating a new Local Wellness Advisor position in the Faculty.

Desautels alumna and vice president of RBC RH&N Kathy Fazel (BCom’91) has received the Inspiration-Andrée-Corriveau Award from the Association des femmes en finance du Québec.
Fazel, whose finance career spans 25 years, credits her early career mentors with ensuring she never felt disadvantaged as a woman in a field still dominated by men. She is now inspired to give back through causes close to her heart.

The first week of May marks the start of the GCPA program for a new incoming cohort of 48 students. Joining the cohort are 37 graduates from McGill University’s very own Bachelor of Commerce graduates, seven Concordia graduates, and four from other Canadian universities. The cohort is comprised of 25 female students and 23 male students.
An additional 53 students will return to the program after completing eight months of work experience. They are entering their last semester in preparation for the National Common Final Exam, which they will write in September 2020.
