  2. Personal history of chest wall radiation: Patients who have a personal history of chest wall radiation therapy prior to age 30 (i.e. for treatment of childhood lymphoma).
  3. Known genetic susceptibility: Patients or families with a known mutation in a breast cancer susceptibility gene, including but not limited to: BRCA1/2, PALB2, TP53, CDH1, PTEN, STK11, CHEK2, ATM, NBN, etc.

What to do next

Step 1 — Ask your healthcare provider for a referral.

Your referring clinician should include relevant medical history and (when applicable) prior pathology and imaging reports.

Step 2 — Send the referral to the HRBC.

Referrals can be faxed to (514) 340-8600 or dropped off at Pavilion E, Room E-740. If you have had a prior atypical breast biopsy, please attach the pathology report (or ask your doctor to do so). You may also be asked to provide recent breast imaging reports (mammogram, ultrasound, MRI).

Direct genetics referrals (when applicable):

If you have already been seen by the Department of Medical Genetics, direct referrals from Cancer Genetic Services may occur in the event of a positive test result.

What happens after we receive your referral?

  • Your referral is reviewed by the HRBC team.

  • You will be asked to complete an intake questionnaire by email or during your appointment.

  • Once the questionnaire is received, an appointment is booked based on urgency.

Timeline and wait times

Wait times vary based on urgency and clinic capacity. The current expected waiting period may range from 6 months to 1 year.

The HRBC welcomes referrals for people of all genders who have increased breast cancer risk. Please inform the clinic of any accessibility needs or supports that would help you attend your visit.
