Introduction
The High-Risk Breast Clinic (HRBC), located in Montréal, Québec, provides specialized screening and clinical surveillance for individuals at elevated risk of developing breast cancer. For example, while the average woman has an estimated ~12% lifetime risk of breast cancer, people with atypical breast biopsy findings, a history of chest wall radiation at a young age, or inherited genetic susceptibility may have a substantially higher risk (sometimes estimated in the 40–80% lifetime range depending on the risk factor and family history).
Objective
The objective of the HRBC is to provide:
- Personalized risk assessment (short-term and lifetime risk)
- Guideline-based high-risk screening
- Supportive counselling and education
- Risk-reduction options (lifestyle, medications, and—in selected cases—surgery)
- Referrals to appropriate services (e.g., genetics, hereditary gynecologic surveillance, smoking cessation, weight management, etc.)

Who we care for
The HRBC is intended primarily for asymptomatic individuals at increased risk. If you have a new breast symptom (for example a new lump, nipple discharge, skin changes, or persistent focal pain), you should speak with your healthcare provider promptly so you can be assessed through a diagnostic pathway.
