We are very pleased to announce that all of the undergraduate programs in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering have recently been given full accreditation for the next three years by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). The Department would like to thank all of the academic and professional staff who worked extremely hard to prepare for this accreditation visit, and also the visiting committee of the CEAB for their diligence in reviewing our programs.

  • Congratulations to Mr. Azhar Chowdhury, supervised by Prof. Gordon Roberts, for winning the First Prize for excellent performance in an oral presentation at IEEE 2011 10th International Conference on Electronic Measurements and Instruments (ICEMI' 2011) in Chengdu, China on August 16 - 18, 2011.
  • Congratulations to Mr. Hieu Nguyen, supervised by Prof. Zetian Mi, for receiving the Outstanding Student Paper Award from the 2011 North American Molecular Beam Epitaxy Conference in San Diego, California on August 14 -17, 2011.
  • Congratulations to Mr. Bhavin Shastri and Mr. Zhaobing Tian, supervised by Prof. David Plant, for each receiving a IEEE Photonics Society 2011 Graduate Student Fellowship.  There were only 10 fellowships awarded this year. Detailed announcement here.
  • Congratulations to Ms. Elizabeth A. Ledwosinska, supervised by Prof. Thomas Szkopek, for receiving an 2011 SPIE Scholarship in Optics and Photonics. Detailed announcement here.
  • Congratulations to Mr. Meer Sakib, supervised by Prof. Odile Liboiron-Ladouceur, for receiving the Vanier Scholarship.  Detailed announcement here.
  • Congratulations to Mr. David Kwak, Mr. Justin Lee, and Mr. Ben Nahill for winning the iNEMO design competition organized by STMicroelectronics and Digi-Key.  Their project consisted of a remotely controlled, multi-sensor equipped and their supervisor was Prof. Zeljko Zilic.  Detailed announcement here.
  • Congratulations to Prof. Anas Hamoui and his student Dr. Jorge Varona for having their paper "Design of MEMS vertical-horizontal chevron thermal actuators" selected by ScienceDirect as one of the top 25 hottest articles published in 2009/2010 in the Elsevier Journal of Sensors and Actuators A:Physical.
  • Congratulations to Mr. David Fernandez, co-supervised by Prof. Dennis Giannacopoulos and Prof. Warren Gross for winning a Best Student Talk Prize at the 25th Symposium in high performance computing "HPCS 2011: HPC in Medical Science for his oral presentation entitled: "Redefining the Finite Element Method for multi-GPU processing".
