A new role, Site Administrator, has been added to the McGill Web Management System (WMS).

What is it?

The Site Administrator serves as the primary contact and oversees the quality and overall objectives of their site. Replacing the now defunct designation of Primary Site Manager, this new role has been created to help ensure quality and reduce complexity for Site Managers and other contributors.

The Web Service Group is working to make it easier for visitors to find and view events on WMS sites, similar to what is on www.mcgill.ca/music/events.

As a result, Channels Event Search will soon be made available to all WMS sites.

What is it?

Channels Event Search makes it possible to display, search, and filter local channels event content on any site where it is enabled.

Starting in June and continuing into the fall, McGill IT Services will be making the following changes to optimize our email processes and gain the full benefits of moving to Email on Office 365:

1) New management of redirects

Starting mid-June, all users will have a new way to self-manage redirects from their @mail.mcgill.ca and @mcgill.ca email addresses to other email services (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, or McGill departmental servers).

On Monday, May 29, at 7:00 am, myCourses will be upgraded to provide a more consistent user experience across computers, tablets, and mobile devices. There will be no downtime associated with this upgrade.

The changes are primarily cosmetic and will not impact functionality. The most noticeable changes include:

Targeted users may receive an email from IT Announcements, advising them to change their McGill Password again by May 24th, 2017. This requirement applies to individuals whose current password is identical to the one they had before the mandatory password change in March 2017.

If you receive an email notification to this effect, please follow the instructions provided in the email and choose a new McGill Password that is distinctly different from any you have used previously.

An unprecedented cyber-attack, named WannaCry, began targeting Microsoft Windows users worldwide on Friday, May 12th, 2017. WannaCry is a type of malware called “ransomware”, which works by encrypting all files on a user’s computer and network drives, and holds information hostage in an attempt to extort money for its release.

 A reset of resource account passwords is required before May 24th, 2017.  For resource accounts that had their passwords changed on or after March 8th 2017, when the password reset was initiated, a reset is not required.

Update - May 11 at  10:57 am: The issues affecting uPrint have been resolved. You should now be able to print, copy and scan from uPrint machines.

 

Original announcement- May 11 at 9:33 am: Due to a server connection issue, the uPrint system is currently unavailable.  Although you may be able to send jobs to uPrint machines, you will not be able to print, copy or scan using these machines. IT Services is investigating this issue. We apologize for the inconvenience.
