Join us for a conversation on Queerness and AI

To celebrate Queer History Month at McGill, we'll be hosting a roundtable discussion on how AI perceives, depicts, and often erases Queer folks. All website managers, editors and content creators are invited to attend!

Join the Web Services' team and our panel of experts for some coffee, breakfast, and dynamic conversation on how Queerness interacts with Generative AI. A co-production of the Equity team in the OPVPA and Web Services teams.

Event details

  • Date: Wednesday, October 23
  • Time: 10 to 11am
  • Location: McGill Engine Centre, FDA5, Frank Dawson Adams Building, 3450 University Street, Montreal, Quebec H3A 0E8
  • Format: Panel Discussion with audience Q&A
  • Registration limit: 40

Panel discussion

Our conversation will be based on the 2024 Scottish AI Summit panel discussion, Facebook Knew I was Gay Before I Did: Queer Data and the Generative Capacities of AI. The presentation asks questions about the benefits of ‘digital inclusion’ for 2S/LGBTQIA+ people, challenge simplistic assumptions about fixing existing biases in AI technology and, explore approaches to AI that are more equitable for 2S/LGBTQIA+ communities. We encourage all interested participants to watch the video before this event.

In addition, the Wired article, Here's How Generative AI Depicts Queer People, will help inform our discussion.
