French Baccalaureate

Admission review process

Applicants will be considered for admission on their ‘bulletins’ (in French with results on 20, and showing class averages) for Première and Terminale or, if already completed, on their final ‘Bac’ results. While a diploma in “premier groupe” with “mention assez bien” is the minimum expected, many programs are more competitive and will require higher grades. The baccalaureat professionnel or technologique is not accepted.

If admitted, you are expected to maintain your level of academic performance through to the completion of your pre-McGill studies.

Advanced standing may be granted for the French Baccalaureate depending on the entering program at McGill.

Classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles (CPGE):

McGill has a long history of admitting applicants from France; we are familiar with the structure and grading systems of the French Baccalaureate (FB) and French universities, as well as the Classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles (CPGE). At this time, studies completed in CPGE do not serve as a basis for admission to McGill, even if integrated with a program leading to university credit in France.

Accordingly, McGill applicants who have undertaken CPGE study are evaluated on their FB results. Such applicants should identify themselves as "Applicants from High Schools Outside Canada and the USA - French Baccalaureate" not as "Applicants from Other Universities or Colleges and Second Bachelor Degree Applicants (‘Transfers').

McGill is aware that Bologna reforms have changed the assignment of credit and exemptions for CPGE study at some universities in Europe. We continue to monitor developments in this regard.

French Baccalaureate reforms

Admission requirements relevant to the reformed Baccalauréat 2021 are found below within each faculty/school/program. McGill continues to welcome qualified applicants from the current and the previous French Baccalaureate programs.
