Biography:

Dr. Bluma Brenner is a Principal Investigator at the Mark A. Wainberg Centre for Viral Diseases at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research and affiliated with McGill University Departments of Medicine and Microbiology and Immunology. She has worked in the field of AIDS since 1990 with 150 peer-reviewed papers (h-index 49, i10-index 118). Her collaborative studies with the late Mark Wainberg involved characterization of drug resistance in distinct HIV-1 subtypes. Current studies focused-on characterization of resistance pathways to second generation NRTIs (islatravir), NNRTIs (doravirine and rilpivirine) and integrase inhibitors (bictegravir, cabotegravir, and dolutegravir).. She has gained international recognition in mapping transmission dynamics of HIV epidemics at a population level based on phylogenetic network analysis of sequence datasets from the Quebec genotyping program. Her landmark Journal of Immunology 2007 publication advancing treatment-as-prevention to avert transmission cascades has been cited 882 times. Her work contributed to the creation of SPOT community site for rapid HIV testing and counselling.
