Royal Victoria College has been an important part of campus life for years with a deep history. While still keeping it's charm, some much-needed upgrades were made to make it more comfortable and functional for today's students.
West Wing - Fully renovated 2025
All bedrooms in the West Wing of the residence received a major upgrade in the summer of 2025 with more contemporary furniture, refreshed mouldings, improved lighting and a fresh coat of paint, bringing new life and comfort to this iconic 1899 residence.
Every stairwell and staircase of the West Wing has been repainted, and the flooring was replaced with more sustainable materials throughout the common areas, hallways and student rooms. Upgraded contour lighting now brighten the entire wing with a modern glow, replacing older fixtures and brightening every space.
The basement has also undergone a complete makeover. Each new room features brand-new furniture, lighting, paint and flooring. A new separation between bathrooms and shower areas will offer added privacy and convenience. Lastly, the entire laundry room is being fully modernized with new paint, updated decor and furniture.
West Lounge
The West Lounge was revitalized and redefined as an inviting student study room. New upgraded flooring and contemporary lighting enhance the warmth of the existing woodwork making a perfect balance of traditional and modern design. Large windows fill the room with natural light, creating an ideal place to read, recharge, or tackle group projects.
Lobby
The lobby was reimagined as a vibrant communal student hub, featuring a TV screen, foosball table, and additional seating. This new transformed space is ideal for gathering with friends or enjoying a game of billiards.
Archival Wall - Dining Hall Entrance
As we continue to modernize our residence, we remain committed to honoring its rich history. This is highlighted through a special showcase of archival photos from the McGill University Archives, featuring Royal Victoria College.
Did you know? RVC was founded in 1899 as a women’s only residential college, thanks to a generous donation from Lord Strathcona, and was named in honor of Queen Victoria.

Dormitory-style with shared washroom facilities centrally located on each floor. Shared kitchenettes throughout the building. Common rooms include 2 TV rooms, games room, aerobics room, study room and a large lounge.

Rooms are furnished with a twin size bed and mattress, desk, chair, dresser, bookshelf, lamp, drapery, wastepaper basket and a small fridge.
