Application Process

The fellowship application process at McGill consists of a preliminary departmental internal application process, after which interviews will be held, and positions will subsequently be offered. This process occurs approximately 2 years prior to the start of the fellowship. Only once the departmental process is complete and the positions have been offered / accepted, will the formal University application process be followed. That process occurs in the summer before the start of fellowship. Only the candidates accepted into fellowship programs during the departmental process should be applying via the McGill University website link.

For the Academic Year 2024- 2025, the Departmental internal process is from May 1 - September 1, 2022. The McGill University formal application web link will be sent only to the accepted candidates in summer 2023. Fellowship will begin July 1, 2024.

Please note the following fellowships are not funded: Women's Imaging, Body MRI & Clinical/Research Pediatric Neuroradiology - Please DON'T apply unless you have university OR government funding (No self-funding is permitted).

Applicants may apply to a maximum of 2 fellowships simultaneously.

We ask that you send a separate application for each fellowship you are applying to with the corresponding number, i.e. 001 (abdominal imaging), 002 (breast imaging) etc.

Fellowship candidates must have completed an accredited Diagnostic Radiology training program by the start date of fellowship and hold a specialist certificate from their country of origin.

Application process for Third Party Sponsored Trainees
(International Applicants sponsored by third parties holding established contracts between McGill University and their sponsors)

Files for applicants considered under these contracts are channeled through the office of the Associate Dean by the government, embassy or agency concerned. We are unable to consider files sent directly to our program office by the applicant. Applicants from the sponsored countries must apply via the on-line PGME application system. Please contact your sponsoring agency for the admissions process. It is recommended, however, to advise the fellowship office that you are intending to apply to a program via your sponsoring agency, and include the specific program name and start date. This will facilitate co-ordination with the faculty. You should contact the office at: [at]

On-line Application Process: Step 2 (University-level application)

This process is for candidates who have passed through STEP 1 (Departmental process) and have been offered a position in fellowship. Approximately one year before start of fellowship, accepted candidates will be asked to complete the official on-line application process via the Faculty of Medicine PGME office. Candidates will be sent further details once the application process opens. More information can be found here.

Fellowship salaries are funded by the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, except the following which must be third party-funded (Saudi-Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and UAE) or candidates accepted into Formation Complementaire (Quebec graduates only).
