Global Health Concentration Option
In 2007 the McGill University Ingram School of Nursing developed a concentration option within the master’s degree programs for students to pursue their interests in global health and Indigenous health– Global Health Concentration (GHC) option. The GHC option is available in both the MSc(A) in Nursing and MSc(A) in Advanced Nursing. This option provides students with global health content integrated throughout the program. Students complete one semester in their final year in a global health placement site where they will complete both clinical and project based components.
To ensure sustainable, equitable interactions that are mutually beneficial for students and the communities in which they work: ISoN is committed to designated partnership sites with whom we develop long-term relationships. At ISON, we emphasize that Global Health is health through a health equity, social justice lens. Global health issues arise locally, provincially, nationally and internationally. As such, our partnership sites are located in Montreal and rural Quebec, other Canadian Provinces and Territories, as well as round the world.
The Global Health Concentration option sets out to prepare nurses for the challenges of working with diverse populations in limited resource environments with a philosophy stressing the importance of understanding the inherent power dynamics, equity issues and ethical dilemmas that arise through this work. It is based on a belief that we have much to learn from one another.
