TA POSTINGS SUMMER 2024

MIME 203 MINE SURVEYING

Instructor: Shahé Shnorhokian

TA – Tutoring/Marking/Demoing/Other 2 at 65.5 hrs each

Duties: (1) leading tutorials and AutoCAD demos in mine surveying, (2) grading mine surveying assignments and homework, explaining tutorial and lecture materials during office hours, (3) assisting the instructor in answering questions by email or during office hours, (4) demonstrating surveying instruments to small groups of students Actual distribution for hours per position to be assigned depending on enrolment.

Requirements: Requires public speaking ability. Must have specifically taken a mine surveying course; a general or civil surveying course is deemed insufficient. Practical mine surveying experience (theory and practice) an asset. Must be proficient in English, French is an asset. Must be outspoken and forthcoming, eager to discuss challenge and explain to students.

Work dates: 2024-05-06 to 2024-05-19 inclusive (intensive 2-week course – 7 days per week)

MIME 290 Industrial Work

MIME 345 Applications of Polymers

Instructors: Showan Nazhat, Florence Paray

TA - Demoing/Marking 1 at 80 hrs

Duties: Preparing and leading laboratory sessions for the characterization and testing of polymers and composites (mechanical and physical). Laboratory demonstrations and grading laboratories reports.

Requirements: Requires public speaking ability. Past TA duties must include demoing and marking. Open to Materials Engineering students only. Must have knowledge and experience in materials characterization (mechanical testing, microscopy).

MIME 350 Extractive Metallurgical Engineering

MIME 419 Surface Mining

Instructor: Mustafa Kumral

Duties: (1) Marking problem sets, (2) Providing problem solving support to students, (3) Attend and grade student Presentations.

Requirements: PhD or Masters student in Mining Engineering whose project is in surface mine planning and has used Whittel and Volcan (surface mining software). Knowledge of graph theory and maximum flow algorithms is an asset.

MIME 422 Mine Ventilation

Instructor: Agus Sasmito

Duties: Assist with marking, tutorial, translation, labs and reviewing the design projects.

Requirements: Must have taken MIME 422 with a minimum grade obtained of A-. Possess a mining degree. Must be bilingual (English/French). Experienced with software VNetPC, Climsim and ANSYS Fluent.

MIME 424 Underground Mining Methods

Instructor: Shahé Shnorhokian

TA - Marking/Demoing/Other 1 at 56 hrs

Duties: Preparation and presentation of tutorials, homework, and numerical modelling assignments on a weekly basis; collection and marking of assignments; coordination with course instructor for assignment materials and correction schemes.

Requirements: Requires public speaking ability. Knowledge of Promine and Phase2 would be considered an asset. Open to graduate (M.Sc/M.Eng or PHD) students performing research in Underground mining. Must have previously taken this course or MPMC 421. Must have preferably been a teaching assistant for this course. Past TA duties must include marking or demoing or tutoring.

MIME 428 Environmental Mining Engineering

Instructor: Alessandro Navarra

Duties: Preparation and presentation of tutorials, homework and numerical modelling assignments on regular basis, including a software workshop using GeoStudio; collection of assignments; coordination with course instructor for assignment materials and correction schemes.

Requirements: Requires public speaking ability, and knowledge of particular environmental engineering challenges related to the mining industry. Must have taken previous courses that are similar to this one. Preference is given to students that have already been the teaching assistant for this course, or other similar courses.

MIME 467 Electronic Properties of Materials

Instructor: Kirk Bevan

Duties: Conducting tutorials.

Requirements: Requires public speaking ability. Extensive knowledge of the electronic, optical and magnetic properties of materials. Should have extensive experience with band diagram theory and quantum theory, and materials science. Ideally should have TA'd the course or a similar course.
