McGill Mining Graduate Program

About Us

Message from the Director

Welcome to the oldest mining program in Canada - founded in 1871. We are proud to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of McGill’s Mining Engineering Program. Our program consistently ranks as one of the top mining engineering programs in the world according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject: Engineering - Mineral & Mining. We offer both English and Bilingual Streams leading to an accredited B. Eng. degree in Mining with or without co-op.

The mining industry is on the verge of an exciting new era. Emerging technologies associated with renewables, energy storage, and space discoveries require unique raw materials. As the primary provider of raw materials, the mining industry needs to develop new extraction and processing technologies that will radically reshape the industry and meet new demands. In addition to technological improvements and innovation, mining practices must be sustainable, socially responsible, and aim to achieve a circular economy. As McGill’s Mining Engineering Program, we are aware of our responsibility and aim to train a new generation of mining engineers in such a way as to equip them with the skills, knowledge, and creativity that the industry demands.

A degree in mining engineering can allow you to pursue a diverse selection of career paths. In addition to working directly in mining operations, many of our graduates work in the financial industries (the Toronto Stock Exchange is the focal point of global mining finance), consultancy services, heavy equipment manufacturing, research institutions, and government agencies. Mining is a highly globalized industry, and Canadian mining companies are active all around the world. As such, mining engineering can land you great opportunities in Canada and many other countries.

As we celebrate our 150th Anniversary, I welcome you to check out our website and contact us if you have any questions. McGill Mining is a special community where tomorrow’s mining professionals are trained and if you consider a career in mining and choose our program, we would be happy to guide you to a bright future.
