General Description
Location
Located in the region of Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Val-d'Or is a northern mining town about 525 km from Montreal. The teaching site is part of the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue which includes the Val-d'Or Hospital Centre and a groupe de médicine familiale universitaire (GMF-U). The latter accommodates Family Medicine residents for their entire 2-year training.
Psychiatry rotations take place in the municipality of Malartic, situated in the MRC of Val-d'Or, 25km east of Val-d'Or and 550km from Montreal. The Hôpital de Malartic is part of the Centre intégré de santé et des services sociaux de l'Abitibi-Temiscamingue.

Lodging
Type of Lodging
Lodging is provided by the establishment and is located adjacent to the hospital.
Trainees are lodged in a "Shared Apartment". Trainees have a private room and share common gender-neutral areas (bathroom, kitchen, living room).
Lodging can be available as of the evening before the first day of your rotation.
Trainees are expected at the reception of the Hospital Center at 8:30 am on the first day of rotation.

Transportation
Trainees can travel to the site by bus, car or plane.
Each trainee receives a stipend to help pay for transportation costs.
Trainees must make their own travel arrangements.
NOTE: For all students making their own arrangements. All students will be required to attend a mandatory Progress Test at the end of each block.
PLEASE do not make any travel arrangements before confirming the exact date of your test.
Traveling by Bus
- Autobus Maheux serves the Abitibi-Témiscaming region. Departure in Montreal from the bus station, Gare d’autocar de Montréal, located at the Berri-UQAM métro station. - Another option would be to travel via Air Creebec, followed by a taxi ride to the hospital. Should trainees choose this option, please note that they receive a fixed amount for transportation whether travelling by air, bus or car.
