Dealing with a broken NMR or EPR sample

  • Move the sample to somewhere safe, and clean up the area.  For purposes of cleaning up, a broom, glass waste, and paper towels are in room 35 (the middle room).  Consider transferring the sample to a vial, if possible - there are Eppendorfs and pipettes in room 35, both in a drawer labeled "pipettes and other small lab items" next to the sink.
  • If the spinner is unusable, please put a note next to it saying not to use it.
  • Tell Kirill (kirill.levin [at] mcgill.ca) what happened.  If possible, say which sample broke (e.g. if it came from a particular position or if the cap was labeled).  That way, the person whose sample broke can be informed (don't worry, they won't be given your name).  Also, Kirill will know to clean the spinner and check the area.
