H. Patrick Glenn (1940-2014)

Biographie

Le professeur Patrick Glenn, outre l’enseignement, se consacrait aussi à la recherche et ses domaines de prédilection étaient le droit comparé, le droit international privé, la procédure civile et les professions juridiques. La 5e édition de son ouvrage Legal Traditions of the World (Presses de l’Université d’Oxford, 2014), lequel a reçu le Grand Prix de l’Académie internationale de droit comparé, est parue en 2014.

Il a été directeur de l’Institut de droit comparé et a, en cette qualité, travaillé sur des projets de réforme du Code civil russe et de formation juridique en Chine. Il était aussi membre de la Société Royale du Canada et de l’Académie internationale de droit comparé et avait été Boursier Bora Laskin pour la recherche en droits de la personne, Boursier de la Fondation Killam et Visiting Fellow de All Souls College, Oxford.

En 2006, il a reçu le Prix Léon-Gérin, la plus haute distinction décernée par le gouvernement du Québec, en reconnaissance d'une carrière remarquable dans le domaine du droit comparé.

En 2010-2011, il a tenu la bourse de recherche Henry G. Schermers à l'Institut de La Haye pour l'internationalisation du droit. En 2012, il avait été élu président de la Société américaine de droit comparé.

En novembre 2014, l'Association du Barreau Canadien - Division Québec lui a décerné la Médaille Paul-André-Crépeau 2014 à titre posthume pour ses contributions au droit privé international.
