IASL participates in the Manfred Lachs Moot Court (African Regional Rounds)
The McGill Institute of Air and Space Law was delighted to participate in the 16th Africa Regional Round of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition, held on 22 and 23 May 2025 at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria, South Africa. Dr. Arnold Agaba (Postdoctoral Researcher and Chair the Research Group on African Air and Space Law) served as a judge during the competition, sharing his expertise and helping to inspire the next generation of African space lawyers.
The moot court was hosted by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic), with support from the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) and the National Earth Observations and Space Secretariat (NEOSS). The Institute’s involvement underscores its commitment to building the capacity of Africa’s space professionals and empowering the continent’s future leaders to serve in the global space sector.
On the sidelines of the moot court, Dr. Agaba also engaged in discussions with the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria to explore potential areas of collaboration. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Faculty of Law for their warm hospitality.
