About the Fellowships:
The Erin & John Collins Arsenault Doctoral Fellowship and Erin & John Collins Arsenault LLM Fellowship are prestigious opportunities for exceptional individuals from around the world pursuing advanced degrees in the field of space governance and law. These fellowships are designed to support and encourage talented students who are dedicated to advancing the cause of sustainable space governance and promoting cooperation, collaboration, and democratization in space-related endeavors.
Fellowship Details:
- Erin & John Collins Arsenault Doctoral Fellowship (1 to be awarded): The doctoral fellowship offers $9,500CAD in additional funding for the first year of the Doctor of Civil Law (DCL) program.* There is no geographic priority associated with this fellowship.
- Erin & John Collins Arsenault LLM Fellowship (2 to be awarded): The LLM fellowship covers full tuition costs for the LLM (Thesis) in Air and Space Law. One of two the LLM fellowships will be prioritized for a student from an African country with the intent to return and work in Africa; this
recipient will be invited to participate in IASL projects and programs focusing on space regulation by African countries. The other LLM fellowship does not have any associated geographic priority.
Theme: Sustainable Space GovernanceThe fellowships are anchored in the research theme of "Sustainable Space Governance," which encompasses not only environmental sustainability but also political and financial stability. The focus of these fellowships extends to promoting cooperation, collaboration, and democratization in space activities. We encourage applications for research that looks towards harmonious relationships and global cooperation in the space arena, as well as research focused on stable space governance at the international, regional, and/or national levels. Our aim is to foster a spirit of collaboration without creating divisions.
Eligibility and Application Process:
Applicants are invited to submit a 1-page statement, research proposal, and CV to the Institute of Air and Space Law. The research proposal and CV should be the same as those submitted with your application to the Faculty of Law. The statement should address why the candidate is a good fit for the fellowship, considering their background, research interests, and goals. In addition to these documents, applicants must follow the regular application procedures of the Faculty of Law. Only students who are admitted by the Faculty of Law will be considered for a fellowship.

Applications sent to any other email address will not be considered.
