Bargaining Update - AGSEM (Academic Casuals)

The last bargaining session was held on July 9, 2026, during which the parties continued discussions on outstanding monetary issues. Discussions remain ongoing, and both parties continue to work toward reaching a first collective agreement. Negotiations are expected to resume in the fall.

Bargaining Update - AMUSE (Casuals)

The Parties met on July 6 and July 23 to continue non-monetary discussions on outstanding articles and begin discussing their respective views on other articles. Negotiations are scheduled to resume September 29. The University remains committed to engaging in constructive discussions with the goal of reaching a negotiated collective agreement.

Bargaining Update - COFAM

On August 5, 2026, McGill University and the Confederation of Faculty Associations of McGill (COFAM) held a scheduled bargaining session. During the meeting, COFAM presented additional counterproposals on nine collective agreement articles. COFAM indicated that further counterproposals, including new articles and proposals on monetary matters, will be presented at upcoming bargaining sessions.

Bargaining Update – COFAM

On July 8, 2026, McGill University and the Confederation of Faculty Associations of McGill (COFAM) held a scheduled bargaining session. During the meeting, the parties continued discussions on a number of collective agreement articles and exchanged views on outstanding issues. The parties reached agreement in principle on two articles and made progress in discussions on several others. A number of matters remain under discussion and will be addressed at future bargaining sessions.

Respect for faculty members and the collective bargaining process

McGill respects the right of faculty members to organize in the manner they choose, consistent with Quebec labour law. We recognize that a strike mandate may be part of the collective bargaining process. A strike vote does not change our commitment to continue negotiating constructively and in good faith.

Bargaining Update – COFAM

On June 3, 2026, McGill University and the Confederation of Faculty Associations of McGill (COFAM) held a scheduled bargaining session that was administrative in nature. During the meeting, both parties reviewed articles that had been exchanged since the previous bargaining session in April 2026.

Bargaining Update – AMPL

Meetings between McGill University and the Association of McGill Professors of Law (AMPL) took place on April 29, May 12, May 13, and June 2, during which the parties reached agreement on additional items.

The parties have now resolved the majority of issues that could be addressed through negotiations. The remaining outstanding matters will proceed to arbitration for resolution.

Bargaining Update – SEU (Powerhouse Downtown and MacDonald Campus)

The parties met on June 16, 2026, and exchanged their respective counterproposals on monetary issues.

They are scheduled to meet again on July 14, 2026.

Bargaining Update – AMUSE (Casual)

The Union and the University met on May 26 and May 27 to continue discussions on non-monetary proposals. During these meetings, the parties reached agreement and signed off on revisions to certain articles, while discussions continued on other non-monetary issues.

Negotiations are scheduled to resume on June 19.

The parties met again on May 20 as part of a conciliation session to continue exploratory discussions on a limited number of issues.

Another conciliation session is scheduled for June 18.

Negotiations are ongoing with three SEU groups whose collective agreements have expired since May 2025.

The parties met on May 25 and continued their discussions on workload and shift assignment. Notable progress has been achieved, particularly with respect to the refinement and near completion of job descriptions.

The next meeting is scheduled for June 17.

The parties met on May 22 and continued their discussions regarding work and shift assignment. Constructive progress is being made, as both parties remain actively engaged in exchanging proposals and identifying potential avenues toward resolution.

Following the exchange of monetary proposals in March, the parties have continued to meet regularly, including sessions on May 6 and May 11.

Negotiations with MUNACA

The parties met on May 6 for a further conciliation session.

At that meeting, the union presented a global counterproposal which, regrettably, did not bring the parties closer to a resolution. At the conciliator’s recommendation, the parties nevertheless agreed to meet again on May 20 to engage in exploratory discussions on a limited number of issues, including monetary matters, with the objective of identifying possible avenues toward resolution.
