An eight-week introduction to programming in Python
The HBHL Coding Club is open to McGill graduate students and postdocs working on brain health-related research. This free and beginner-level series is intended for graduate students and postdocs with little to no previous experience in programming to learn the fundamentals of programming in Python for data analysis.
The series will run from the week of July 7 to the week of August 25, 2025, and will consist of self-guided online lessons, ongoing peer support and weekly two-hour workshops on Tuesdays OR Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. EST at the HBHL offices (located on the 18th floor of 1010 Sherbrooke St. West).
The HBHL Coding Club program includes:
- Weekly online lessons and activities that can be done independently at any time during the week and only require a computer with internet access.
- Weekly two-hour small group workshops held in-person at the HBHL Offices. These are designed to build on the online lessons—you will work collaboratively to solve problems and apply your new knowledge to research-related examples. Please note that accommodations can be made if necessary.
- Ongoing peer support: Stuck on the online lesson? Have a coding problem at the lab? Discovered a helpful strategy or shortcut? Online discussions between workshops facilitate collaborative troubleshooting and idea sharing.
Students who complete the eight-week program will receive a certificate of completion and obtain myInvolvement credits. Please note that the total time commitment for this series is up to 8 hours per week.
