Equity Awards

Group of seven winners of the 2025 Equity Awards standing with Provost Chris Manfredi.

The Equity and Community Building Award (hereafter the Equity Awards) recognizes the work of students, faculty, and staff committed to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and community building at McGill.

Within the Equity Awards, there are four streams of recognition. Up to four awards may be granted per year, one in each stream:

  • McGill academic staff
  • McGill administrative and support staff
  • McGill students
  • Teams consisting of members of any of the above groups or any combination.

Value per award: $1,500.

Deadline for nominations March 20, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET!

Nominees can be individuals or teams/groups of collaborators who are actively involved in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within the McGill community. The nomination letter and letters of support should address ways in which the nominee has shown exceptional leadership, initiative and commitment to equity, diversity, and community building over the reference period.

McGill University’s Award for Equity and Community Building was approved by Senate and the Board of Governors in April 2012.

McGill University is on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg nations.
