Wipe test calculator

The Wipe Test Calculator allows one to calculate a wipe test in Bq/cm2 with the appropriate Counting Efficiency, Background Radiation, and Measurements (in either cpm or dpm).

Using the calculator

Once you complete the fields (background radiation, sample description and gross measurement), hit 'Calculate' at the bottom of the form. You will obtain the Net Measurement (in cpm) and the Measurement in Bq/cm2. The form can then be printed and inserted in the radiation log book.

Please note that wipe tests are performed by swabbing a wet or dry filter paper on 10 x 10 cm work surfaces.

You can may also download fillable pdf or excel versions of the form depending on your personal preference (Note - To be able to save a pdf form with its data, you will most likely need a professional version of Acrobat Reader):

Please note: Wipe tests are to be done immediately after radioisotope manipulation for infrequent users and weekly for frequent users. Also do not forget to insert the wipe tests reports in the McGill Radiation Log Book.
